President George W. Bush signed the No Child Left Behind Act into law on January 8, 2002. This legislation reauthorizes the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) and is the primary federal funding program supporting K-12 education.

Title I - Improving the Academic Achievement of the Disadvantaged, Basic Grants
Title I is an important source of funding for schools and districts seeking to
utilize technology for instructional purposes. While it does not directly
require technology purchases, it allows for technology purchases making it a
significant source of "indirect" funds for technology. The total fund for FY2002
is $12.3 billion with as much as $700 million used for technology purchases.

ESEA Title II, Part A - Teacher and Principal Training and Recruiting Fund
Title II, Part A is an important source of funding for improving teacher and principal quality and the number of
highly qualified teachers and principals in schools. This program does not directly require technology purchases, but
allows for technology purchases making it a significant source of "indirect" funds for technology. It is estimated that
this program will provide $400 million in funding this year for technology and technology related professional development.
