Educational software maker Headsprout sells to DYMO/Mimio

SEATTLE, Wash. – March 15, 2011 - Headsprout, a Seattle company that develops online reading programs for kids, has agreed to be sold to Cambridge, Mass.-based DYMO/Mimio. Terms of the acquisition weren't disclosed. But Headsprout CEO Dave Anderson tells GeekWire that offer letters have been extended to all of the company's 64 employees. He added that they will "aggressively expand and scale the combined businesses over the coming years."

"Headsprout's patented, research-based, adaptive software for online learning perfectly complements DYMO/Mimio's suite of interactive teaching technologies," said Anderson. "This union sets the stage for collaborative work intended to transform the nature of learning in the classroom, by increasing teacher effectiveness and student achievement through interactive learning."

HeadSprout was founded in 1999 by Greg Stikeleather, Joe Layng, Kent Johnson and Edward Anderson. The deal closed on March 9th.
